Alaska Highway Campground Prices

Bob Jameson – Kenai, Alaska.

One of the bright spots in driving the Alaska Highway is found in the affordability of the campgrounds along the Alcan Highway. Alaska Highway campground prices are some of the lowest we have encountered when the level of services remain to be held so high. British Columbia and the Yukon each differ in both services and prices but each still offers a very good value for the level of services provided.

Where we have seen the largest variation in prices for camping along the Alaska Highway has been with the local campgrounds maintained by municipalities as compared to those provided by the Provincial governments. Local government campgrounds have been adding more and more services and amenities to their campgrounds like paved roads and campsites, flush toilets, showers, dump stations and even electrical hookups in some cases.

Provincial campgrounds are running $12.00 per night and provide a fantastic opportunity to experience some of northern Canada's most beautiful scenery up close and at your pleasure. Camping in the Yukon and British Columbia Provincial campgrounds is so often overlooked by many traveling the Alaska highway. The typical users of the Provincial campgrounds are seasoned campers looking for a more rustic and relaxed atmosphere to discover the real northern feeling one misses in the full service RV parks. Most of the campsites will be filled with tents or smaller RV's and many could be locals enjoying the local fishing or hiking opportunities.
